Bever Cleaver of my room
My classroom is full of the new age Bevers! One of my students did the countdown until mom got out of jail and then started the countdown to when dad got out of jail. Another student is being raised by his great grandmother. Another student has recently come to live with grandparents because the mother is an alcoholic. I have many students who come from single parent homes. Now more than ever my students need support from not only me but from everyone involved. I deal with a very sensitive subject as I work to improve their communication abilities. I have to remember that many are not getting a great deal of support at home and that I need to do all I can to make their educational experience a good one.

Our scenario is pretty different. Lots of stable families usually with two parents. In the last ten years the scene is changing from what it used to be with more single parents and grandparents raising kids. For the most part though most of my students come from a pretty stable, supportive environment.
ReplyDeleteI think you are a good support source for your students. You are such a supporting person. I have a headache - it is hard to think. Waiting for the caffeine to kick in. It hasn't yet.
